Enrichment Kindergarten is offered to those children who are ready for an all day school situation. Children may stay for a full day of school, which ends at 2:40 p.m. (the same time grades 1 through 12 are dismissed). The enrichment child would either be enrolled in the regular morning Kindergarten, eat lunch, then take part in the afternoon enrichment session; or would take part in the morning enrichment session, eat lunch, and be enrolled in the regular afternoon Kindergarten.
Enrichment studies include reinforcement of the language arts and math concepts learned in Kindergarten, as well as art, science, and social studies activities.
The curriculum for Enrichment Kindergarten at Sacred Heart Academy includes daily lesson plans in the following areas:
Math: working with numbers and their values, basic addition, patterns, calendar (days of the week and months) and graphs
Reading: students work with a letter a week using "Zoophonics" and the Scholastic reading series, students learn letters and their sounds and correct formation of letters, students keep a journal of writing to show their growth within the year
Science: Students work with the "Zoophonics" animals to learn classifications and animal habitats
In addition, students travel to CMU for a special gym class weekly. Students also attend computer class at SHA.
