2010 Boys Varsity Baseball
Sacred Heart's baseball team enjoyed another great season in 2010 finishing with a 30-5 record and being ranked #3 in the final Coach's Association poll.
Although the team lost the first game of the state tourney, the 4-2 loss to eventual state champion BealCity helped validate the final ranking as it was the Aggie's toughest game of the tourney. Add that to the D4 semi-final involving Lake Michigan Catholic and Portland St Patrick, both teams Sacred Heart defeated during the year, and wins over D1 Midland Dow, 25 game winners Battle Creek St Philip and Chippewa Hills and quarter-finalist Breckenridge and the Irish may well have been the third best team in the state.
Mitch Reetz earned AllState honors for the second straight year hitting .514 with a .693 on base percentage. Mitch's 54 runs ranked as the fifth highest in school history and his 57 hits are fourth on the all time single season list.
Mike Lilly did not strike out in 129 at bats and batted .470 with a team leading 45 RBI to gain first team AllState honors. Thadd Levine continued to pound the ball with a .397 average and 17 doubles and five home runs, enough to earn second team AllState honors.
Brent Hasler had a terrific year on the mound with an 8-0 record and Marc Jaksa's only two losses were to BealCity.
The team was only the third in history to record 30 regular season wins and will miss graduates Reetz, Lilly, Hasler, Tim Jacque, Billy Myler and Larry Humphries, but several strong returnees and a 29-4 JV record hold promise for another good season in 2011.
