Computer Class Update
October 29, 2008
Our youngest groups of students will now begin computers! Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Maddocks will be bringing their students to computer class starting the week of November 3rd.
The students from 1st and 2nd grade are working on Halloween stories. The first graders are using a program called Kid Pix while the 2nd graders are using Storybook Weaver. After they write their story, the students are able to create their own art that goes with it.
The 3rd and 4th graders are also working on keyboarding in the Type to Learn 3 program. They will also be using the program Storybook Weaver to work on creating their own story and creating illustrations to go along with it. After creating the story, they will be able to go back in and read their completed masterpiece.
For the 5th and 6th grade, we are working with their language arts projects in the computer classroom. They are creating the stories in class and fine tuning them in the computer lab using Microsoft Word and Storybook Weaver.
Students are able to visit our class website from home to play games. The website includes games that are curriculum related for each grade level. I have also included links to information about Las Posadas on the site, which is the topic of our music program this year. Please feel free to browse the site yourself. You can also email me from the site if you have any questions or comments. The site address is: http://www.quia.com/profiles/llowery10
Lisa Lowery
About Mrs. Lowery
Hi! My name is Lisa Lowery and I am a new addition to the Sacred Heart Elementary team. I have been given the pleasure of teaching Spanish and computers. I graduated from Aquinas College with a Spanish major and a Health, Physical Education and Recreation minor. Prior to Sacred Heart, I taught bilingual middle school for three years in Grand Rapids Public Schools. I also did my student teaching here at Sacred Heart and had a great experience. My husband, John Lowery, teaches computers and business at the high school level here at Sacred Heart.
I am really looking forward to being with your students this year to help them explore both the Spanish language and culture, and to explore the technology they will have available for their use. Both of the classes I teach will be in the recently added classrooms! It will be a very fun year for all of us!
