Kindergarten and Developmental Kindergarten Options

Following are the four options Sacred Heart Academy offers for children who are five years of age by December 1 of the upcoming school year:

1. Developmental Kindergarten is available for children who are not socially, emotionally, and/or academically ready for the rigors of kindergarten. The developmental kindergarten gives children the gift of extra time to mature and might well be worth consideration. Mrs. Mary Beth Roberts teaches Developmental Kindergarten.  The class meets from 8:30 a.m. - 11a.m., Monday through Friday.

2. Enrichment Developmental Kindergarten is offered to those children who want an all day school situation. Children may stay for a full day of school, which ends at 2:40 p.m. The enrichment child would be enrolled in the regular Developmental Kindergarten, eat lunch, and then take part in the afternoon enrichment session.

3. Regular Kindergarten is available in 1/2 day sessions, Monday through Friday, either in the morning (8:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.) or in the afternoon (12 - 2:40 p.m.). Both 1/2 day sessions are taught by Mrs. Janet Maddocks.  

4. Enrichment Kindergarten is offered to those children who are ready for an all day school situation. Children may stay for a full day of school, which ends at 2:40 p.m. (same time grades 1 through 12 are dismissed). The enrichment child would either be enrolled in the regular morning Kindergarten, eat lunch, then take part in the afternoon enrichment session; or would take part in the morning enrichment session, eat lunch, and be enrolled in the regular afternoon Kindergarten. Enrichment studies include reinforcement of the language arts and math concepts learned in Kindergarten, as well as art, science, and social studies activities.

Busing is available for DK and Kindergarten children who live in the Mt. Pleasant School District. The bus arrives at SHA by 7:30 a.m. and leaves SHA at 2:40 p.m. Arrangements may be made by calling the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools Transportation Department.

Morning and afternoon latchkey is available every school day. Morning hours are 7 a.m. until school starts. Afternoon hours are 2:40 until 5:30 p.m. Latchkey is normally available any day school is not in session from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. Latchkey may be used on an as-needed basis (i.e. daily, weekly, etc.), however, you must call ahead to insure availability. You pay only for the days that your child attends latchkey.

$15 annual enrollment fee per family

Morning (DK or kindergarten children who stay until 8:15) - $2 per day

Afternoon (2:40 until 5:30 p.m.) Flat fee $6 per child; maximum $12 per family

Full day - $20 per day 1st child; $15 for each additional child per

1/2 day - $14 per child
