November 27, 2013
We had a very short week, but we were able to accomplish several of our special activities. Here are some highlights of the week and reminders:
Reading: We read several versions of the first Thanksgiving story, studied the Pilgrims and Indians. We also had fun reading a Rebus Thanksgiving story, which is a story with pictures instead of words.
We learned about the significance of the Mayflower this week. Then we made our own model of the Mayflower. Ask your child what the Mayflower is.
We made cinnamon/sugar/Thanksgiving bread in a can! The pilgrims may not have had tin cans in their time, but they certainly didn’t have the nice pans we do today! Thanks again to everyone who donated towards our special treat.
We enjoyed our first read-in of the year. It gave us an opportunity to read some books and take some AR tests. Due to all of our special activities that we had planned for today our read-in didn’t last as long as we wanted it to, but the students still enjoyed it.
Book It: If your child didn’t turn in his/her November Book It log yet, please do that next week. Their December Book It log is in his/her Friday folder.
December Daily News begins next week. Your child will need to share one of your holiday traditions. It can be Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, or any other holiday your family celebrates this time of year. You can bring an object or a photo to help show your tradition. What, why, when, how, where, and who are key questions to answer during your presentation. The December schedule was in last week’s Friday folder.
Christmas Party: Our Christmas party will be on Friday, December 20th from 11:00-12:00. We will be having our party with Mrs. Hansen’s class. The parents who signed up to help organize this party are getting a special note home today. We are planning on eating lunch in the classroom that day. Your child is welcome to eat a hot lunch from the cafeteria, which is grilled cheese, or he/she can eat the lunch that is provided by the parents. Please feel free to stop by!
