Dear Family,
Summer is almost here! It is hard to believe this school year will come to a close in just three short days. We have grown in our Reading, Writing, Math and thinking abilities. We grew as a team and as friends. I can not emphasize enough how important it is to continue reinforcing skills over the summer. The Summer Reading Program sign-up will begin Monday at the Veteran’s Memorial Library. There is another flier in the Friday folder. The library has many activities planned for your child to encourage Reading.
Library cards are clipped to the pocket of the Friday folder to use in the summer. Please keep for second grade. If you have any library books still at home, be sure to return them directly to the library. Please look around your house for any classroom library books, including AR books, and return to school by Tuesday.
I will send home an activity pack on Tuesday with suggested activities to help your child review skills and have fun outdoors.
Monday please bring two bags to gather books and supplies, two terry cloth rags for cleaning, and a small bucket if you have one. Monday your child will bring home some of their books and supplies, and the remainder on Tuesday. Report cards will come home on Tuesday.
Wednesday your child needs to come without a jacket or backpack.
Highlights of the Week:
Math: We finished Chapter twelve on double-digit addition and subtraction and took a test today. Please continue practicing addition and subtraction facts, along with double-digit addition and subtraction, during the summer.
Language Arts: We completed reading assessments. We wrote about our summer plans. This writing piece will be passed to your child’s second grade teacher. We finalized our writing of our “All-About” books, and shared our books with the class. Your child may not have completed their book, but unfortunately we ran out of time. Your child’s book will come home Tuesday in their Friday folder. If your child has unfinished pages, hopefully they will be complete them during the summer and share their finished book with you.
Social Studies: There was lots of excitement in our classroom as we engineered inventions. We wrote a description about our invention, then shared them with the class. They come home today. Please ask your child to tell you about their invention and what others invented.
Have a wonderful weekend!
God Bless!
