T.E.A.M. 204 News                                March 16, 2012

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
May the luck ‘o the Irish be with you. Happy St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow!
Students are bringing home their report cards today. Please sign and return the envelope with the Friday folder. I visited briefly with students regarding their report cards, and they’ll continue preparing they’re conference for you.
Fourth graders have permission to have a dress up day on Thursday as they will want to be in nice attire for their conferences. We’ve talked about Sunday best for our presentation (or any interview for that matter).
You’ll also find conference time confirmations in with the report cards.
As part of March is Reading Month, we have read The Lorax. The reading month committee has made arrangements for us to see the movie on Monday, March 26th. Please sign and return the permission slip with $3.00 next week.
We’ll be heading to CMU on Wednesday, March 21st, for the Opera/Symphony orchestra performance. Thanks for promptly returning permission slips with $1. Please let me know if you are able to join us. Right now we have two chaperones.
There had been $22.80 added to our pop can donations this week. Our total is now $26.50. Please remember to count the cans and put the number on the bag before bringing them in or send in the money/slips in an appropriately labeled envelope. Thanks. We collect until spring break.
Today, March16th, all students remembered their donations or wore their uniforms. This is the second time this school year that we all remembered! Great job, class!
We were treated to some Extreme Science at an assembly on Tuesday. I hope you heard about the different science topics that were shared.
Mrs. Cataldo visited yesterday with another great Art Reach lesson. Thank you.
Mr. Bigard is challenging students to read and research about the Civil War. Students played a game in which they made business transactions. There was a good discussion about profits and losses. See you next week. Thanks.
Ask your child about the assembly we had this afternoon. We had a speaker regarding bullying.
Brooklyn and Angeline have two more performances tonight and tomorrow night in “Singing In the Rain” being performed by Mt. Pleasant High School if you’re looking for some great entertainment.
My apologies to Madelon who also helped present the Shadow Stations at the church last Friday. Thank you, Madelon, Zoe, and Sammy for your participation.
Many girls are taking part in Girls on the Run this year. They are dismissed with latch key students to get ready.
                                    SUBJECT NOTES
RELIGION- Students have a St. Patrick’s Day prayer to share and sign.
Students are beginning their Spiritual Works of Mercy booklets.
As I checked in religion books, I’m finding that students aren’t keeping up with their book work. There is often time to work on the pages in class, then they are given an “official” due date when put into their planners. This has affected many students’ grades.

SPELLING- Prefixes are added to the beginning of the base word and changes the meaning. However the spelling of the base stays the same.

SCIENCE- We have begun our new topic of study, Energy Transfer. Ask students about their investigation using black and white balloons with thermometers.
SOCIAL STUDIES- A lesson in our chapter is very nicely aligned with the Junior Achievement curriculum that Mr. Bigard is sharing with students.
READING- It looks like we’ll be testing on Wings next Thursday.
For March is Reading Month, students are reading a book in partners or small groups. They’ll be reading some on their own this weekend and should bring the book back with them on Monday.
ENGLISH- Color pencil editing has been expected on the P.O.W. letters for some time. It is CPE in their planners as a reminder.
MATH- Ch. 9’s topic is fractions. We are off to a flying start. Students were challenged with changing improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. I’m excited to see how they did.
MUSIC – Thank you to the ten students who were prepared with their recorders for class this week. Having recorders for class helps you get some good practice.
LIBRARY – Ask students what Miss Judy shared with us today.

ART – Some fine work is being returned with our portfolios at conferences.

Let us pray:                                                              Loving God,
You bless all of creation with new life.
Give us faith
That we can live with you for ever.
Lift up our hearts
Through our prayer and care for others.
Teach us wisdom
As we read your word.
We ask this through our Lord, Jesus CHRIST,
Your Son, who lives and reigns with
You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

About Mrs. Reinke

I am Mrs. Reinke. I teach T.E.A.M. 204 fourth graders. I am the oldest of six children and a 1984 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. I attended and received my teaching degree at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.

My husband, Chris and I have been married since June 9, 2001. Together we run Reinke Mid-Michigan Landscaping at our Midland home. We have expanded our business to the Upper Peninsula after purchasing a home and property there.

We are very proud to share our lives with our daughter, born in February of 2002. We enjoy watching her discover more about herself as she grows.

I love to teach. I love to share my faith. I challenge my students to pray always, and teach them simple ways to make what we do a prayer. I also teach my students to look for patterns in everything. Finding patterns leads to new discoveries and makes many things easier.

Traveling is something I also love to do. I have traveled around the northern hemisphere while living in places like Ireland and Japan. I hope to travel somewhere in the southern hemisphere to satisfy my spirit of adventure.
