I can’t believe we are wrapping up the first week of the school year. This week I have really enjoyed getting to know each of your children and I have quickly discovered that we will be having a fun year! I will be sending a note every Friday in your child’s Friday Folder with updates on what we have learned this week and upcoming reminders. As always, if you have questions feel free to email or call!
1st Grade Parent Meeting-we will be meeting in Room 103 Tuesday, September 10th at 6:15 PM. We will be discussing curriculum, procedures and other things to expect in first grade.
Library-We will be going to the library on Monday at 9:00, so make sure to send your child’s library card with them to school Monday morning. I will keep all of the cards and hand them out at check-out.
Math-The kids took their first math pretest. We have begun Chapter 1-Numbers to 10. This chapter is designed to be a review from kindergarten and is preparation for addition and subtraction.
Science-On Thursday we took our science pretest over our animal life unit. In this unit we will be exploring real-life animals and their habitats.
Book Orders-In this Friday folder I will be sending home the first book order. Please have all orders in by Monday, September 16th.
Classroom Volunteers-At the meeting Tuesday we will sign up for classroom volunteer opportunities. These opportunities include holiday parties (Christmas, Halloween and Valentine’s Day), Art Reach, and Junior Achievement.
Flash Cards-Next week I would like to begin working with our spelling words. If you could please send a pack of 3”x 5” of index cards (color or white) to school by next Friday that would be great. We will be using these flashcards frequently to allow your child to easily recognize these words.
Have a great weekend!
