Weekly Newsletter
2nd Grade
May 11, 2012
Dear Parents,
We’ve had another successful week of school! I know everybody is starting to look towards the summer, but we still have been working hard. Here are some highlights of the week and reminders:
Math: We worked on 3-digit subtraction this week. Everyone caught on very quickly. We will be having a test over 3-digit addition and subtraction next week. We will be moving into multiplication and division in the last chapter.
Reading: We read several versions of City Mouse and Country Mouse this week. This story taught us the lesson to be happy with what you have. After reading the story the students filled out an episode map; then they completed a mouse accordion book.
Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to bring in items for our Michigan snack! You will see the item your child is assigned to attached to this newsletter
Junior Achievement: The purpose of Junior Achievement is to provide our students with an understanding of our economic world. Eric and Jordan are two seniors from Mt. Pleasant High School and they have been working with our class. We have one more lesson left. Ask your child what he/she learned in JA so far.
Read-In: We will be having a read-in on Monday, May 14th. Your child is welcome to bring in a pillow, blanket, a special snack, books from home, and a drink with a lid.
Art Reach: We had our final Art Reach lesson on Friday. The class loved Art Reach days. The students learned about several different artists and discussed their paintings. Thank you Mr. Roberson for being are Art Reach teacher this year; you did a wonderful job!

About Mrs. Simon
I am very excited to have the opportunity to be your child’s teacher. I’m looking forward to an enjoyable and rewarding school year.
I have been teaching second grade at Sacred Heart Academy since January of 2008. I absolutely love teaching second grade. Prior to teaching at Sacred Heart I taught at St. Cecilia for one year as the third and fourth grade teacher. I received a Bachelor’s Degree from CMU in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Math and Language Arts.
My family is an important part of my life. I am the youngest child of ten. My family continues to grow; I currently have 10 nieces, 20 nephews, and two more on the way. With that being said children play a huge role in my life. I grew up in Beal City and attended St. Joseph the Worker school during my elementary years. In my eyes, nothing compares to a Catholic Education. I am fortunate to be a catholic schoolteacher. I will strive to provide a positive learning experience for my students, just as I was blessed with growing up.
I had a wonderful summer spending time with my 21 month old son, Zack and my husband, Chad. Chad works at the Clare hospital and he is currently continuing his education at Ferris State University. Zack is growing so quickly and keeping me on my toes every minute.
