Student Supply List

The curriculum for the sixth grade at Sacred Heart Academy includes daily lessons in the following areas:

Math

Mastering multiplication and division of fractions, understanding decimals and measurements, conversion of the metric system.

Reading

Students work in literature circles within their own classroom and with the other 6th grade class. They are exposed to the various genres of literature, including adventure, fantasy, etc.

Science

Students learn about the Solar System, rocks and rock cycles, chemistry and genetics.

Social Studies

Students learn about Ancient Civilizations including Ancient China, Japan, India, Persia, Greece, and Rome.

Religion

Our religion focuses on the Old Testament and almsgiving. The students work with younger SHA students as reading and prayer partners. They hold various collections throughout the year for Christmas Outreach and the Isabella County Soup Kitchen. They give books to the Chippewa River District Library in appreciation of the programs that the library makes available to them.

In addition, students have music, computers, Spanish, art and physical education on a weekly basis. Sixth graders attend several field trips through out the year starting with an overnight 5th/6th grade camp held at Springhill every other year in September. They visit the Impressions 5 Science Center in Lansing for a hands-on science lesson. Occasionally, they may walk to Central Michigan University to take in a play or musical performance. They participate in the annual Geography Bee and Spelling Bee.
