WORSHIP COMMISSION
This commission acts in an advisory capacity to the pastor and parish staff. In addition to seasonal liturgy preparations, this commission helps to implement various ministries, such as:
Eucharistic Ministers – assist in distributing the Body and Blood of the Lord at parish liturgies.
Lectors – proclaim the Word of God to the community. Good oratorical skills and a willingness to spend time during the week studying and preparing the readings are essential to this ministry.
Cantors – function as song leaders, assisting and encouraging the congregation to participate fully in liturgical functions.
The Choir – provides support for congregational singing and assists in teaching the congregation new hymns and acclamations. Weekly rehearsals are held throughout the year and new members are always welcome.
Altar Servers – are boys and girls who attend Sacred Heart Academy or Religious Education. Training begins in the fourth grade. Servers are expected to recognize the importance of their role by maintaining a sense of reference, arriving fifteen minutes prior to liturgy, and finding a replacement if they are unable to fulfill their duties.
Ushers – are men and women who provide a valuable service to the parish community. They greet people, take up the offertory collection, direct the congregation in an orderly reception of the Eucharist, and distribute bulletins as parishioners leave.
Environment Committee – provides decorations for the church and sanctuary area. Their talents enhance the prayer life of the community by creating a visual reminder of the changing liturgical seasons.
