Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry at Sacred Heart Parish has three primary focuses:
- To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today
- To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic Faith Community
- To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person
The Young Church is called to embrace their faith as they study it, pray it, and live it. The Young Church accomplishes this through their participation in the Religious Education Classes that meet monthly during the school year and by participating in the activities of the Youth Group which meets twice a month in the Catacombs at the BIG HOUSE. A monthly calendar of events is published in which the topics for the Religion Classes and discussion groups as well as all of the other youth activities are listed. These activities may include: Game nights, movie nights, service projects, special prayer events, and off site activities. Some of the off site activities are: roller skating, bowling, participating in the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) held every other year, retreats, March for Life, Work Camps, and youth rallies. The monthly calendar, along with any required paperwork (permission slips, etc.), are generally posted on the Youth Bulletin Board in the Gathering Space of the Church and outside the Upper Room at Sacred Heart Academy.
Youth Group is divided into two sections: the Junior High (Grades 7 & 8) and the Senior High (Grades 9-12). The Junior High meets on Sundays, 2 – 4 and the Senior High meets Sundays 5 – 7 (each meeting twice a month). The Youth Room is called The Catacombs and is located in the basement of The BIG HOUSE.
